Unrivaled Coastal Access
Whether you prefer exploring the Pacific coast from the comfort of your car, or by taking a leisurely walk, run, or bike ride, all trails lead to the Beachcomber Motel and Spa On the Beach in Fort Bragg, California.
In particular, the recently completed Noyo Headlands Coastal Trail sure does.
This multi-use, ADA-accessible paved trail is part of the 1,200-mile California Coastal Trail and features spectacular views, easy access, restrooms, and one-of-a-kind benches made by local artists. It’s six miles of stunning Mendocino coastline, most of which had been closed off to the public for over a century.
Bikers, strollers, roller bladers, hikers, runners, and leashed dogs are welcome along the path that connects on its north end to MacKerricher State Park and on its south end to the Noyo Harbor and Pomo Bluffs Park. Wildlife viewing opportunities here are superb and there are several interpretive panels explaining the human and natural history of the area.
It’s really a special treat for all visitors to Fort Bragg, and certainly a unique amenity for our guests at the Beachcomber, as well as our sister property next door, the Surf & Sand Lodge, said Jon Glidewell, General Manager of Beachcomber Hotels. Being directly on the trail, along with our bike rentals and day spa, we’re able to offer a coastal experience that few can match when it comes to convenience.
Of course, the convenience doesn’t stop there. With such amenities as free wifi, free continental breakfast, dog-friendly suites, a dog park and leash-free run, guest laundry, outdoor BBQ decks, fire pits, and more (did we mention the views?) – your stay is sure to be easy and affordable.

As for nearby activities, you certainly won’t have a hard time staying busy. They’re just minutes away from restaurants, historical museums, botanical gardens, whale watching, shops, art galleries, redwood forests, wineries, breweries and much more.
Wanna take a ride on one of the most historic trains in America? Well, that’s easy too. Just walk or drive on down to the Skunk Train terminal and get on board to take in this most iconic of Northern California experiences.
You’ll be having an unforgettable travel experience, all while enjoying it from one of the most green-friendly hotel operations in the North Coast region.
We have a responsibility to operate our hotels in the most sustainable way possible, said Glidewell. We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world, and taking a more sustainable approach to life, business, and travel is an easy and essential way for all of us to protect what’s here and all the places we love and visit – so that future generations can come and enjoy it.
Their sustainable practices include:
- Waste management and recycling
- Use of only renewable and sustainable energy sources
- Electric car charging stations
- Water conservation policies
- Use of fluorescent bulbs
- Ceramic mugs in rooms, not paper or plastic
- Extended use of sheets and towels
In short, it’s good things being done by good people at the Beachcomber Motel and Spa On the Beach. Of course, it also takes all of us to do our part, but the calm and beauty of the natural setting here is sure to make that an easy choice.
So pack your bags and make the Beachcomber your base camp for exploring Fort Bragg and the surrounding beauty and activities of Mendocino County.
